Jane is a Chartered Psychologist, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health and a member of the British Psychological Society's Division of Clinical Psychology and Faculty of Addiction. She also chairs the Society for the Study of Gambling. As one of GambleAware's earlier recipients of PhD grant funding, Jane Rigbye completed doctoral research in the psychology of gambling - 'Problem gambling amongst youth: the barriers that prevent them from seeking treatment' - at Nottingham Trent University. The original purpose of funding PhD students was to develop the research capacity within Britain and GambleAware now benefits directly from this investment.
Prior to her appointment as Director of Education, Jane was the Director of Commissioning (Treatment and Harm-Minimisation) at GambleAware, and also previously worked as Head of Youth Services and Policy Development at GamCare and Director of The Gambling Lab. She also lectured on gambling studies at Salford Business School, University of Salford and on gambling behaviour at Nottingham Trent University (Division of Psychology). In addition, Jane has published consultancy and training reports for the Gambling Commission and Manchester City Council as well as a variety of gambling related journal articles, educational materials and conference papers.
